R1 team rider Paul Bates and friend Seamus Rafferty went out to the Eastcoast of America back in April, here's a few photos. Hitting Phillidelphia to visit some friends they spent a few days skating with Rickay, JonJon, Alf, the Neglected Truth guys and the rest of the Philly locals. Angelo Ferrera, Sal, Alex Nunez amongst other NYC locals were kind enough to show them about the five boroughs of New York sessioning the best spots around the city.

Building a modern day community of collective creativity StreetFest is a new breed of festival where the onus is on promoting and merging creative talents. StreetFest is taking it back to the ‘old skool’, by blending the spirit and soul of those nostalgic rocking block parties, with creative flair and modern trends. StreetFest actively involves visitors in the day’s events by creating an interactive experience!

Whoah, ok so winter's over...the team are back in full force & the blogman here has come out of hibernation!! So it's back to business as usual, fresh updates, fresh images, fresh merch' & we'll be keeping you up to date on all that's happening.

Oh, and just so you know, the R1 team will be skating down (or up, well it's at Liverpool Rampworx park this year!?) at world qualifier Chaz Sands Invitational which promises to be pretty epic!! We'll have full reports & footage from there along with NASS Festival so keep watching this space.

Rolling videographer Harry Reavley has just dropped another trailor for the much anticipated UK dvd 'Cult Leaders'. Cult Leaders is set to be the hottest UK dvd release in recent history and featured profiles on two of Routeone's team riders Paul Bates and Lee Mainland as well as the much talked about Dan Ives.

Routeone rider Paul Bates will have a section to watch out for in the Cult Leaders DVD.

If his breakfast is anything to go by, Lee Mainland's section is gonna be badass.

Alchemy skates have just dropped a press release on rollernews and Kingdom with a statement about their company and an edit on newly announced team rider Sam Tuffnell. Check out the press release and edit below!

It’s time to clear up the crap surrounding Alchemy.

As it stands, there is less than a handful of reputable boot companies in the blading world who actually give a shit and put back into the industry. Over the first two years of Alchemy we’ve already sponsored some of the UK’s highest profile comps, help fund skateparks, flowed product to up and coming riders and established the respect of the UK’s most influential characters. Anyone that had their eyes open at this years NASS should have noticed the abundance of Alchemy banners on the street course as well as hammers dropped from our first official rider, Andy Gilbert.

If we wanted an easy ride we wouldn’t bother putting back into the industry.
The cynics may argue that we’re trying to get a quick buck from rollerblading but Alchemy was born from a distributor who has been releasing aggressive skates for the past ten years. And after watching the standard of the UK scene evolve, we realised it was time to develop the first pro level boot company from the UK.

To develop Alchemy, the distributor teamed up with some of the best UK rollerbladers as we knew this had to be a brand for skaters, by skaters. Everyone involved with Alchemy had the same vision; to create a high quality boot company at a reasonable price, from a UK brand with longevity.

Anyone that thinks there’s easy money to be made in creating a boot company from scratch needs to question their own sanity. Especially in the current rollerblading climate where some major boot companies have made their quick buck in the industry’s peak, and left when times got hard. We at Alchemy understand that to get back, you first have to put in.

Instead, we’ve been busting our guts hooking up riders, travelling to comps, shooting edits and developing our skates. We can’t give too much away, but keep your eyes peeled for more news on a full team and future product developments.

Alchemy is here to stay.

Zak Buys - Badass? Genius? Both?

Routeone's own Zak Buys is a bearded hammer machine. Unbeknown to most of us he's also a genius. Zak has recently moved to Norwich and is, according to team mate and Norwich local Sam Currie 'doing a masters in some crazy genious science shit at the UEA'.

Most people just eat corn on the cob without thinking about it. Here Zak calculates the exact nutritional value of eating the corn, and whether the energy exerted by calculating it, is now more than he will gain from the corn...should he finish the rest?

Luckily Zak is still finding the time to skate regularly with Sam, so look out for an edit coming from Norwich in the near future.

Bone Voyage Jam

This Saturday there's a 'Bone Voyage' jam going down at Boneyard park in Chester to wish Hosker farewell and good luck on his travels. For anyone that hasn't been there the park is really fun and as it's Hosker's park, it's built for rollerblading so you don't have to deal with any low square 2 foot long rails. It's all long, round and a few feet off the ground. Check out the flyer and the trailor below which has some savage skating from Frazer, Nick Lomax and Routeone's Andy Spary killing the box.

Crawley skatepark Jam

Kingdom mag have teamed up with Crawley council to put on the first ever inline jam at the still relatively new Crawley concrete park. The Jam happens Sat 7th Aug from 10am - 1:30pm and there'll be prizes and a best trick comp. After 1.30 the session moves on to Horsham park.

We just wanted to let you know about the BHC BBQ happening at The Front Skatepark, Weymouth on Saturday 23rd August from midday till 7pm.

Whatever it is Paul is doing this royale to 180 mute to the street on, it looks like a lot of fun. It also looks like it's supposed to to be upright. Routeone would like to point out it does not condone tearing down structures and re-modelling the landscape as you see fit (unless it creates spots like this.)

NASS 08 was, as expected, a riot! After a quick 8 hour train journey from Glasgow, Scotland we (Me and my friend Stu) arrived at Shepton Mallet Showground on Friday evening at around 8 O'clock.

After signing in we went for a wander and were swiftly diverted to the 'Relentless Athlete tent' where we were assured we would be 'looked after'. On arrival we were pointed to the bar where we could get some refreshments and the best part was they were free!

I met up wth a few of my mates from Leicester; Cal, Jock and Dan Mac. Big Jock had already had one refreshment too many by the looks of things and everyone was in good spirits chilling on this big balcony. At this point I was introduced to Sam Currie and Lee Mainland (both Route One Riders) for the first time. With them I also met Paul Bates (Route One Rider) who I had met briefly in London at the Chris Farmer DVD premiere. All very pleasant gentlemen! Zak Buys (Route One Rider) was also there with the young Jamesy, both holding it down for the Kingdom of Fife.

After a pretty good night we went to the Route One Stand in the morning where we got to meet all the staff working at the stall, which was packed to the gunnels with bargains and all sorts of goodies. Loads of people had also been signing up for the shoe competition which was happening every hour.

Rich Barber (Route One Rider) and I decided to start stacking boxes to see what the limit was that we could get to to jump. I think the highest we got was 6 boxes and about chest height! I’ve never jumped that high and I’m sure it was because it wasnt a brick wall or metal pole so I wasn't suffering from the fear factor. Shows you how much skating is in the mind.

Then at about 10 o'clock we headed through to the skate park where the competition was being held. Stu Game was trying to get a few clips but it was pretty hard because there was like 300+ people everywhere, most on bmxs. 1 or 2 bmxers kept going and just doing massive tailwhips and tail 360s: it was intense. A photographer for Route One was also there taking photos of the team.

At 11.30 the rollerblading started to take the course and we got about a 1 hour session before the am comp started.

My 1st run consisted of 1 540 then I fell and walked off. It must have looked like I threw a right wee hissy fit but the truth be known you have to be super consistent in these comps and one fall is not really allowed. So for my second run I was intent on not falling. I had a pretty good run; 540 the litte picknick table box 360 the lunch box front farv to flat on the far quarter, backroyal the driveway to flat then over for a cab 5 then a we 360 over the hip beside the wallride finnishing with a 270 backackslide on the rail.

Loads of sick American skaters were there and I found myself liaising with Brian Aragon on the little rail but he only did a few tricks because he was obviously quite limited on it compared to me.

Chilling with Eric Bailey and Stockwell is always fun because these guys have some good banter. I also got to meet Brent Hicks and Demetrious George for the first time, so thanks for making the long journey over guys.

Look out for me and my boy Dre Powell negotiation the size of the Vans tour bus in the next razors podcast: gotta love Dre man - he's such a cool cat and possibly one of the most friendly people I have ever met.

Then we went and skated the Gibbon Slackline out at some pavillion, with Paul Bates, Rich Barber, Zak Buys and Gibbon Slackline world champion Scott Quinn. Much to the amusement of Chaz Sands!!

After that we went and skated the rail outside a toilet then we skated a drop rail with a 2 inch run up. Then it was about 10 o’clock at night and I still hadn’t had my breakfast. Oops!

When I woke I watched the pro comp, ate a bit of my friends cornish pasty and started to feel sick. Then I had a 12 hour drive up the road being sick out the side of my mate’s car. I had to go to hospital and have been here for 2 days. I'm still in here and writing this from the hospital. Stay away from pasties kids. Nass 08 sick as ever!

We're back from NASS and here’s a little post to let you know what we've been up to. We didn't do too good on the photo front I'm afraid, there were loads of good friends there we haven't seen for ages, so our time was consumed with good conversation and many a brewski. There was a massive turn out this year and they had really hooked it up for the riders too, we had a massive athlete lounge complete with X-Box's, foosball, tiger skin rugs, massive couches and bean bags everywhere, free fruit, free beer, free nandos, a DJ and a hot tub.

The competition was fun, the park was pretty tricky but everyone managed to squeeze some nice tricks out of it. Lee (Mainland) decided he couldn't be arsed to compete and when they called his name he scampered off and we didn't see him for three hours. I enjoyed watching the bmx guys shred the course. (it was designed for them as usual…)

We hung out at the Kingdom booth and mooched around the trade stands a bit, this is where Lee discovered his natural talent for snakeboarding. He couldn't quite master the random roller skate style skateboards though.

The nights were wild, we kept ending up in some random drum and base barn. Lee also spent half an hour trying to convince a bar lady to accept a completely ripped in half fiver and eventually succeeded by taping it together with stickers he found on the floor.

We managed to leave just in time because it p****d it down pretty much as soon as we got in the car. The journey home was super slow with loads of traffic on the motorways. We hit up little chef for some traditional bad road food and when we eventually got back we hung out with Lee's dogs for a bit and then parted ways for some much needed rest.

The whole Routeone team less Tom Portas was there to check it out - Andy Spary, Keir Lindsay, Lee Mainland, Sam Currie, Rich Barber, Zak Buys and Paul Bates.

Friday night was the classic NASS mash up involving under cooked food, over-priced beer and fairground rides that make you chuck both up anyway. Gotta love it.

The sun sweated everyone out of their tents by about 9am on Saturday so we headed to the park to check out the course. As you can see from some of the pics it was a transition based primarily BMX course but it worked really well for rolling too, offering up loads of transfer and big trick opportunities you know the likes of Aragon, Haffey and Chaz would be all over.

The only criticism would be it could have had more stuff to grind. That didn't stop the legend that is Keir Lindsay absolutely killing the short square rail with 270 backside backslide 270 out, 360 mistrials and 270 back royale 630 out to name a few.

Zak Buys was laying off the grinds due to a dodegy ankle but was flowing some nice lines and Rich Barber eyed up a few of his trademark massive transfers.

The Qualifying comp was a close event with a very high skill level. Sam Tuffnell looked like he was ready to take on Aragon and Haffey and qualified by a mile for the pro event followed by Julian Coulter and Zak Whitelaw. Another notable run was Dan Mclaren missing out on qualifying and coming 4th by one vote after a solid run which included an effortless alley oop topsoul on the nasty down square rail and true top porn across the nasty flat square rail.

After the comp the park was taken up by the BMX and skateboard events, and the ramps were pretty crowded so we found a spot to set up the Gibbon slackline and had a session on that! The list of tricks you can do on the slackline doubled with sweaty's, kindgrind's and even fishy's getting laced on it.

It was attached to a hexagon fence type thing and Paul Bates led the way hucking from the slackline over the fence and then transferring to grind the fence. Check out the edit to see some of the tricks that went down.

If you can remember what happened Saturday night then you didn't drink enough, but i did. So i can't tell you. Although Keir's drunken freestyle battles with Dre Powell were the funniest thing i've ever seen...until the next morning at 9am when I saw Keir still up, still drinking and still roaming about shouting Skull fuck!

The pro event was everything you expected it to be and more. All the top names showing why they are the top names and the unstoppable Aragon and Haffey going bigger than anyone with 900 transfers and crazily high boosts out of the quaters.

Frazer Watson absolutely went off on one and destroyed the park and the competition to take first place and 2.5 grand!

Sam Tuffnell made sure no-one would forget his name by doing one of the most ridiculous tricks i've seen in a very long time to take the undisputed 'best trick' award, even though he didn't roll away with it landed, if you see the clips i think you'll agree he earned it.

All in all a wicked event and put on well by the organisers. There was a VIP area with a hot tub, free booze and Nando's chicked and more free relentless than your nervous system could take. Nuff sed. Looking forward to next year!

Route One Riders Have Arrived!

Why we haven't done this any sooner is a bit of a mystery, but finally we're giving the Route One Team Riders the spotlight that they deserve!
If you didn't know already, Route One has two teams, one skateboard and one inline, both rammed full of the best skaters we could get our grubby little mits on! On the profile pages you will discover a bit of background behind the riders and see some sweet shots of them in action. The profiles will be updated all the time, with new videos, photos and information for you to peruse at your leisure. NASS should give us some great footage, so keep an eye out for updates.
So if you've got some spare time, give it a look and find out a little more about some guys (and girls) with a very bright future.

Sam Currie's birthday!

It was Sam Curry's birthday a few days ago and instead of predictably going for a Vindaloo -Sam and the boys headed to the freezing cold beach to enjoy a classic English BBQ which involved collecting drift wood, Scrumpy burgers and of course the mark of Zorro branding on arses. Nice. Happy Birthday Sam!

Routeone team rider Sam Currie was out skating and shooting pics when he was approached by this kid who said 'he used to rollerblade, but quit cos it was too easy'.....he now spends his time doing parkour-esque flips named after his Disney heroes like this 'Ariel' in the above photo. Sam cheers him on as the rest of us wonder if rollerblading will survive after the loss of this clearly talented young man...

Inline NASS Details Announced

Some details have been announced regarding the Inline events at this years NASS and it's looking pretty special so far. With the likes of Chris Haffey, Brian Aragon, Erik Bailey, Chaz Sands and Oli Short, all battling it out for their share of the £4.5k prize purse, it's goona be huge.
Route One also has a large team in attendance and these are the guys you really want to be looking out for: Andy Spary, Keir Lindsay, Paul Bates, Lee Mainland, Sam Currie, Zak Buys, Rich Barber and Tom Portas. (Sod the big names, everyone's seen them before!)
Route One will also be in the main retail hall; selling all kinds of discounted inline hardware, the team will also be hanging around so you can meet them and show the love, we'll also be running some sweet competitions, so come along and enter. It will be worth your time!

NASS - So Close You Can Almost Smell It!

It's just over a week away and boy are we getting excited! That's right, NASS '08 is just around the corner and the anticipation is almost too much to bear. The Route One stand is coming along nicely (sort of), the R1 teams are getting prepared and the long range weather forecasts look promising, all we need to sort out now is what we're sleeping in, tent, car, hotel or ditch...
Anyway, if you haven't got your tickets to the UK's biggest and craziest action sports and music festival, what in God's good name are you waiting for? It really doesn't get any better than this! Pro skaters, live music, mad happenings and Route One of course, all set in the beautiful rolling west country hills.

Tom Portas takes a beating!

Route one rider Tom Portas recently took a beating while trying to get some photo's shot for his R1 profile. He manged to knock himself out and do his back in at the same time. This is Tom a few days after getting out of hospital, they wanted to take a photo at the time but there was too much blood to warrant a 'photo stop' before heading to the A&E....
